Lady Trappers Fall To Western Nebraska

After an impressive 69-66 win against Rocky Mountain JV last Tuesday for its first win of the season, the Northwest College women’s basketball team came back down to earth on Wednesday.

The Lady Trappers lost on the road to Western Nebraska Community College 101-56 in Scottsbluff. The Lady Cougars jumped out to a 21-12 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, extending their advantage to 45-26 at the half. The Lady Trappers were unable to find an answer for WWCC’s Merle Wiehl, who finished with 32 points on the night, including six 3-pointers.

Northwest was led by Juliana Ribeiro and Berkley Larsen with nine points apiece. Selena Cudney, Jenna Lohrenz and Melissa Martinez each added seven points, while Shelby Wardell and Tess Henry finished with six. Cudney led the team in rebounds with five.

The Lady Trappers shot just 30 percent from the floor, compared to 55 percent by Western Nebraska.

Northwest is off this week for the Thanksgiving break, but will be back in action this weekend, competing in the Lions Club Classic in Sheridan Friday and Saturday.
