The very recent development of LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology has truly revolutionized the field of Maya archaeology. In this talk, NWC’s resident Maya archaeologist Greg Smith discusses what LIDAR is and why it is such a big deal for archaeology. He will use the ancient Maya city of Tikal, Guatemala--where he led a field studies course last May--as a case study. This event is part of the NWC Hispanic Heritage Month celebration. Lunch will be provided.
