Continuing to round into form, the Northwest College men’s soccer team finished with a 5-1 win against Central Wyoming at home Saturday before earning a draw at No. 17-ranked Casper College on Monday.
NORTHWEST 5, CENTRAL WYOMING 1
Returning home after a pair of road trips, the Trappers (4-2-1) welcomed the Rustlers (2-6) to Northwest on Saturday.
The Trappers came out and continued their strong attacking play, but were unable to generate strong chances throughout much of the first half.
Northwest finally got its breakthrough just before the half, when John Joe Mullane curled in a strong effort just outside the box after an Artur Dalfior Kataoka assist to give the Trappers the lead with four minutes left in the half.
Out of the halftime break, Pedro Miguel Vilaca Teixeira got a goal on a strong solo effort to make it 2-0 in favor of the hosts.
Central had a quick response just minutes later on a free kick, tightening the match just five minutes into the second half.
Ben Laybourne helped extend the lead once again for Northwest, scoring on a chip over the keeper to make it 3-1 with 14 minutes left.
Paulo Victor Gomez got on the scoresheet with nine minutes left, scoring on a strong through ball to make it 4-1.
Victor Gomez got his second of the match with 5:30 left after a scramble in the box was put into the back of the net to make it 5-1 Northwest.
Northwest outshot Central 14-10 in the match as Northwest extended its winning streak to four matches.
NORTHWEST 1, CASPER COLLEGE 1
Blustery and overcast conditions throughout the match saw minimal chances for both teams on Monday in Casper (4-2-1), with the teams battling to a 1-1 draw.
The one premier chance for the Trappers came late in the match, when Ricardo Farias da Silva cut across the top of the 18-yard box and finished with his left foot just under the Casper College keeper to give Northwest the lead with nine minutes remaining.
The Thunderbirds answered with just a couple of minutes left on the clock, after a corner kick was headed in to tie the match 1-1.
No extra time was played in the match, and it was concluded with a 1-1 draw.
Casper College held a slight 7-5 advantage in shots for the match.
SOUTHEAST ROAD TRIP
Northwest now heads southeast this weekend to take on Western Nebraska (2-1-1) at 3:30 p.m. on Friday and Laramie County Community College (0-3) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Trappers will return home after the quick road trip to take on Northeastern Junior College and Lamar Community College next weekend on Friday and Saturday.
