Surviving Social Media - A Self-Centered Approach

Social media and digital information provide dangerous new worlds to explore.  Personal risks of anxiety, cyber bullying, depression and over-reaction to false information cannot be avoided.  To safely thrive in cyberspace, one must develop a stronger, stable, grounded “Self” that can rightly process information and regulate emotional responses– both online and face-to-face.

This “Self” can be described as a quantum field of energy, emerging as a nervous system developing rational feelings.  This self-reflecting entity understands that we never have all the information needed for certainty; that relationships are fundamental to one’s life; that words do not tell the whole story; and that a natural order exists to properly evaluate what happens to us.  This “field Self” or “emerging Self” holistically values all aspects of one’s life, knowing one part affects all others.

This class provides a map and compass to direct us when exploring the streaming, electro-magnetic realms of cyberspace and human interactions.  The map and compass provide a stable framework for navigating unstable happenings.  They explain the process of information transformed into misinformation and disinformation.  They supply a constant, reliable guide for this energy landscape in which “words matter, and everything else matters more.”
