Teammate Reunion Brings Point Guard To Lady Trappers

It’s going to be an Eaglecrest High School mini reunion on the court for Northwest College women’s basketball team next season.

That reunion of former Eaglecrest players from Aurora, Colorado, will be three strong.

Latest to join the Lady Trappers is a sophomore transfer, Hidaya Thornton, described by NWC coach Cam Levett as “an ultra quick and competitive point guard.” Thornton will reunite with former high school teammates Raquel Turner and Tatiana Coleman.

“I chose Northwest for the opportunity to further my education and basketball career,” said Thornton. “Playing along some high school teammates enticed me, and I’ve heard several good things about Coach Cam and the Northwest women’s basketball program.”

Thornton was a standout in basketball and track at Eaglecrest High School and was named female athlete of the year in her senior year. She went to Garden City (Kansas) Community College on a basketball scholarship her freshman season, then transferred to a four-year school after a coaching change at Garden City. She has one year of junior college eligibility.

“Hidaya [Thornton] puts pressure on teams to get back in transition with her ability to go coast to coast,” Levett said. “On defense, she has the rare ability to pick up full court and apply pressure without fouling. This allows us to be very versatile next season.”

Raquel Turner was a starting guard for the Lady Trappers most of her freshman season last year. Tatiana Coleman is an incoming freshman in Levett’s 2020 recruiting class.
