Registration for our Showalter Festival is now open! Please read the Festival Letter for specific information regarding this year's festival.

Northwest College is sponsoring the annual Showalter Music Festival. This esteemed event is open to Brass, Woodwind, Percussion, Guitar, Vocal, and Piano students grades 5 - 8.  This festival is named in memory of Dr. Victor Showalter, former Professor of Music at Northwest College, who started the festival in 1975.

Checklist

  • Register Online by January 16, 2022. We accept registration forms only from teachers – please do not have students register themselves.
  • Please mark the student’s experience (1 year, 2 year, 3 year, etc.) This will help the adjudicator make a fair and accurate evaluation of the student’s performance.
  • Send Payment of $12 per entry following your online registration. After completing the online registration, you will be sent an invoice for the total registered entries. Please send prompt payment with a copy of the invoice. Be sure to include the invoice number on the check or school voucher. Checks or school vouchers should be made payable to NWC Music Festival.
  • Make copies for adjudicators. The name of the school and the student’s name should be included in the title of the saved PDF document. Adjudicators will need a legible copy of the solo or score of the ensemble selection with measures numbered.The adjudicator’s rating sheet and student certificates will be placed in the Director’s packet and mailed to the school after the festival. **Send electronic copies to music@nwc.edu** 
  • Come to Showalter Festival on February 5, 2022.

Scratches

If a student cannot perform please report it to the Festival Office as soon as you can. Schools will still be responsible for payment of entries that are scratched after January 30, 2022.


Awards

Adjudicators will rate all completed performances as Superior, Good, or Fair. Please familiarize your students with the rating system. Superior ratings will receive a blue ribbon and a certificate. Ratings of Good and Fair will receive certificates only. Each adjudicator will select the best performance for their area and a Musicianship Award will be mailed to the students' director. Outstanding performers will be given the option to have their video featured on the Northwest College Music social media platforms.
