This is a great hike that can be done in two different loops, one that is about 6 miles and one that is about 10-12 miles. From Powell head to Redlodge and then take highway 212 (Beartooth Highway) up to the pass. Go over the pass and you will come to the Island Lake Trailhead. I fyou get to the Top of The World store turn around and go back about a mile. The Beartooth Lake Trailhead is located about 3-4 miles west of the Top of The World store on the right side. travel back on the dirt road for a ways and you will see parking fo the boat ramp and if you go further parking for the trailhead. Use the USGS 7.5 Beartooth Lake Topo Map. Be aware that this is Grizzly Bear country so be sure to take ALL precuations nessecary for safe travel.
