J. Gregory Smith, Associate Professor, teaches a wide variety of anthropology courses at Northwest, including introductory classes in cultural anthropology, biological anthropology, and archaeology, plus more specialized courses such as North American Indian Cultures and Ancient Mesoamerica.  Most of his research has been focused on the archaeology of the Mesoamerica, more specifically the Late Classic Maya of northern Yucatan, Mexico.  Dr. Smith has also had the opportunity to conduct archaeological research in central Mongolia, northern Ecuador, and across the United States.

A Washington native, Greg attended Central Washington University and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.  In the world outside of academics, he enjoys backpacking, birding, baseball, watching the Steelers (especially when they beat Cleveland), and listening to Wilco.
