NWC combos and ensembles feature jazz and guitars in Monday, April 30, concert

POWELL, Wyo. - Two Northwest College jazz combos and a guitar ensemble will perform a diverse assortment of musical selections at a 7:30 p.m. concert, Monday, April 30, in the Nelson Performing Arts Center Auditorium.

Under the tutelage of Jeff Troxel, the Three O’Clock Jazz Combo sets the tone with “Little Sunflower” by Freddie Hubbard, “Scrapple from the Apple” by Charlie Parker, “Kiss to the Skies” by Kenny Barron and “The Art of Happiness” by Jean Luc Ponty.

The Northwest College Guitar Ensemble changes the program tempo and style with two selections by Andrew Forrest, “Pavane of Welburn” and “Pavane of Huntington.” They’ll also perform “Etude #1” by William Leavitt; “Invention #8” by Bach, featuring Wes Hogg and Amos Helvey and “Air” by Jean-Philippe Rameau.

The Four O’Clock Jazz Ensemble will wrap up the evening with “Lucky Southern” by Keith Jarrett, “Alice in Wonderland” by Sammy Fain and Bob Hilliard, “Oleo” by Sonny Rollins, “The Basin” by NWC musician (jazz combo and ensemble member) Drew Brown, and “Sack o’ Woe” by Nat Adderly.

Admission to this evening of jazz and guitar is free and open to the public.
