- The community was initially named Paintrock, in 1896, after the
nearby cliffs which were covered with pictographs and petroglyphs.
- Paintrock was renamed Hyattville after store owner and first postmaster, Sam Hyatt.
- Asa Mercer settled here after leaving Cheyenne following the
publication of Banditti of the Plains. Banditti of the Plains was a
harsh portrayal of cattlemen during the Johnson County War.
- Hyattville is situated between Paint Rock Creek and Medicine Lodge Creek.
