The Department of Music invites you to the Senior Recital of Matthew Hagestuen, baritone, assisted by Janet Scovill, piano, Charles Forsberg, organ, in Nazareth Chapel on Thursday, May 2, at 12:45 p.m. This recital is free and open to the public.

 

Chamber Singers Concert

Tuesday, May 7, 12:40 p.m.

Nazareth Chapel

The NWC Chamber Singers, directed by Dr. Mary Kay Geston, presents a not-to-be-missed year end concert of sacred jazz music and Beatles classics on Tuesday, May 7 at 12:40 p.m. in Nazareth Chapel. Twentieth-century jazz meets liturgy in a dynamic “Kyrie” and beautiful “Agnus Dei” from Mass by Steve Dobrogosz, an American jazz pianist and composer living and working in Sweden. This is followed by A Little Jazz Mass by British composer and former member of The King’s Singers, Bob Chilcott. Rounding out the concert are four Beatles hits, And I Love Her, If I Fell, Michelle, and Back in the U.S.S.R., as presented by The King’s Singers. Free and open to the public.

 

Orchestra Concert with Concerto-Aria winners

Tuesday, May 7, 7:30 p.m.

Maranatha Hall

The Northwestern College Orchestra, conducted by David Kozamchak, will perform with the 2013 Concerto-Aria winners, Benjamin Osterhouse, cello, and Julia Pagh, soprano, on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. in Maranatha Hall. The Orchestra will perform Bizet’s “Marche des contrebandiers” from Carmen, and Dvorak’s Symphony No 9 in E Minor (“From the New World”). Benjamin Osterhouse, cello, the Concerto division winner, will perform the first movement of Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1 in C Major, Hob VIIb:1. Julia Pagh, soprano, the Aria division winner, will perform Bizet’s “Je dis que rien ne m’épouvante” from Carmen. This concert is free and open to the public.

BON VOYAGE CONCERT for “American Soundscapes” 2013 Ireland Tour

Symphonic Band – Friday, May 10, 7:30 p.m.

Maranatha Hall

Please join the Symphonic Band, directed by John S. Herlihy, on May 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Maranatha Hall. The Symphonic Band will tour to Ireland May 22—June 2, performing contemporary and classical wind band repertoire from such noted composers as William Schuman, Leonard Bernstein, Robert Russell Bennett, George Gershwin, Eric Whitacre, and Leroy Anderson. Please pray for safety as the students, faculty and staff travel to Ireland.
This concert is free and open to the public (a free-will offering will be taken).
