Adjunct Instructor of Music / Percussion

Joel Alexander is an active performer and teacher in the Twin Cities. He has performed extensively in the area as a guest percussionist with the Minnesota Orchestra, Mankato Symphony Orchestra, Mississippi Valley Orchestra, the Oratorio Society of Minnesota. He teaches the drumline at Wayzata High School in Plymouth, MN, and privately at the Academy of Music at NWC. He is also a member of the percussion quartet Struck which is committed to performing new, genre-bridging music. While in Wheaton, Alexander played with the Wheaton Municipal Band under the direction of Bruce Moss and special guest conductors such as Colonel Michael J. Colburn, director of “The President’s Own” Marine Band. He was the winner of the Winds/Brass/Percussion division in the annual Wheaton College Concerto Competition in 2007, performing Eric Ewazen’s Concerto for Marimba and Strings. He completed his master’s degree at the University of Minnesota, studying with Fernando Meza and Peter Kogan, principal timpanist of the Minnesota Orchestra. He also studied with Kathy Kastner, Michael Folker, Eric Millstein, and Michael Kozakis while completing his bachelor’s degree at Wheaton College.
