Junior Student Recital

The Department of Music invites you to the Junior Recital of Jillian Aydelotte, soprano, and Jessica Laeger, mezzo soprano, assisted by Janet Scovill, piano, and Victoria Klomps, piano, in Nazareth Chapel on Thursday, February 2, at 12:45 p.m.

This recital is free and open to the public.

  

Concerto-Aria Competition

Saturday, February 4, at 1 p.m., Nazareth Chapel

We invite you to come and enjoy talented NWC music students as they compete for the opportunity to perform as soloists with the Northwestern College Orchestra on May 1, at 7:30 p.m. in Maranatha Hall. Students competing: Jillian Aydelotte, soprano; Carl Christenson, clarinet; David Danielson II, piano; Miriam Dennis, trumpet; Shawn Fletcher, tenor; Matthew Hagestuen, baritone; Brad Halbersma, piano; Kristina Iwan, soprano; Jessica Laeger, mezzo soprano; Hannah Lindahl, soprano; Padra Ann Maria Moua, soprano; Emily Nelson, mezzo soprano; Benjamin Osterhouse, cello; Amanda Potts, flute; T. Hastings Reeves, bass/baritone; Michele Seiffert, mezzo soprano; Stefan Swanson, trombone.

Guest adjudicators will be Sarah Lewis (Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra), Juan Li (Bethel University), Jean del Santo (University of Minnesota).

This competition is free and open to the public.

Winners will be announced in a Blue Room reception following the competition.

 

Senior Student Recital

The Department of Music invites you to the Senior Recital of Hannah Lindahl, soprano, and Marissa Vossen, soprano, assisted by Janet Scovill, piano, and guests Bethany Jackson (soprano), Marina Fischer (alto), Jason Meyer (tenor), T. Hastings Reeves (bass), Emily Baltzer (bassoon), Rebecca Rohland and McKayla Kleinsasser (violin), and Benjamin Osterhouse (cello), in Nazareth Chapel on Thursday, February 9, at 12:45 p.m.

MMEA Mid-Winter Clinic at the Minneapolis Convention Center

Symphonic Band Concert

Thursday, February 16, 1 p.m.
Minneapolis Convention Center Ballroom
The Northwestern College Symphonic Band, under the direction of John S. Herlihy, has been invited to perform at the 2012 MMEA Mid-Winter Clinic. This concert of classic wind band repertoire features the works of such noted composers as Kenneth Hesketh, Morten Lauridsen, John Barnes Chance, Launy Grøndahl, W. Francis McBeth, and Dmitri Shostakovich, and featuring Jeremy Kolwinska, trombone. Registration is required at www.mmea.org/winterclinic.htm; however, parents of band students (as well as students, staff and faculty who wish to attend the concert only) may come to the music office for a free pass to the event.

All Department of Music Alumni, faculty and current students are invited to stop by. This is in conjunction with the MMEA Mid-Winter Clinic, but you do not need to be registered at the Clinic to attend this reception. Free and open to music students and alumni.
 

Symphonic Band performs for Band Compositions Reading Session:
Chosen Gems, presented by Dr. Rikard K. Hansen
Saturday, February 18, 10:30 a.m.
This session will focus on a list of 10—15 wind band compositions written in the last 15 years. Hansen's presentation will focus on the merits of each composition and why he considers them to be important additions to the wind band repertoire. Faculty Artist Series: Frisch & Friends

Join us for an evening of music from Baroque to Jazz, with Roger Frisch, NWC violin instructor and associate concertmaster of the Minnesota Orchestra, and guests William Schrickel, acting principal bass of the Minnesota Orchestra, and Mary Jo Gothmann, renowned piano and opera coach of the Minnesota Opera.
