Conducted by Timothy Sawyer, the Northwestern Choir is among the leading college choirs in the United States, a competitively select ensemble of 70–80 upper-class men and women. The choir performs primarily sacred a cappella music of all style periods and occasionally presents major choral-orchestral works with the Northwestern Orchestra. Devoted to the highest level of choral performance, the Northwestern Choir's motto: "Choral music direct from the heart" binds together singers seeking to sing from the heart, and to glorify God in every aspect of their music and life together in Christian community, doing it all in the name of Jesus Christ. Our mission is to Light the Way-to bring the light of Christ and God-honoring, dynamic choral music everywhere we can, including places where few collegiate choirs have gone before, as well as to the places where great choral music is heard regularly. The choir tours annually throughout the United States, and every fourth year, overseas. In the spring of 2006 and 2010, the choir toured Eastern Europe and the Baltics, respectively. On campus, the Northwestern Choir performs for fall and spring concerts, annual commencement ceremonies, sacred services, and noted fine arts series throughout the Midwest. |
