Northwestern has had a “missions heartbeat” from its beginning. A number of teams and individuals serve across the country and around the world during Christmas break, spring break and over the summer. Teams have ministered in Guatemala, China, South Africa, the Czech Republic, San Diego, Mexico and Alaska.
Student Missions Fellowship (SMF) is a student organization that prays for, promotes, and raises funds for missions. Students are encouraged to take part in prayer meetings, fundraisers, and missions events that SMF holds. SMF sent out 11 teams last year.
SMF also hosts Missions Emphasis Week in February. More than 20 different missions organization representatives visit campus throughout the week to answer questions and provide opportunities for students interested in missions. Speakers who have served all over the world come to challenge students to get involved in God's global purposes to bring His glory, gospel and healing to the nations.
"The missions trip I went on to Trinidad was challenging in several ways but mostly, it made me look beyond myself and really pour into others. I had the opportunity to meet some of the most beautiful people in the world and fell in love with the country."
