The English as a Second Language Education major is designed to prepare students to teach English as a second language in grades K–12 in private and public schools. ESL Education majors can teach English in the United States and around the world. This major also provides a foundation for graduate studies. The degree is granted upon completion of 134 credits as specified in the catalog (40 credits must be in 3000- or 4000-level courses).
Students may be recommended for dual licensure in ESL (Grades K–12) and Elementary Education (Grades K–6) with an Academic Specialty in Communication Arts and Literature Education (Grades 5–8) by completing the ESL (Grades K–12) program with some changes.
Due to the number of credits, this program usually requires 5 years to complete. The combination of ESL Education and Elementary licenses work together wonderfully to support your future students, and also have the benefit of adding flexibility to your teaching career.
