Winter/spring sports land 56 on UMAC Academic All-Conference List
June 14—A total of 56 winter and spring student-athletes from Northwestern College were named to the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Academic All-Conference award list on Tuesday. Northwestern was second amongst the nine UMAC schools for total awards, while the Eagle softball team took home the team academic all-conference award for its sport.
As a whole, the UMAC boasted 306 winter and spring academic all-conference awards in 2010-11, falling one shy of the record-setting 307 accolades that were distributed in 2009-10. Together with the 359 fall individual academic all-conference awards, the UMAC distributed a total of 665 certificates throughout the 2010-11 academic year. To be eligible for nomination, student-athletes must post a 3.50 or better semester grade point average (GPA) based on a 4.0 scale in the term in which their season corresponds. Men's and women's basketball players must post an average of a 3.50 GPA in the fall and spring semesters since their sport begins in October and ends in March.
Northwestern took second place with 56 UMAC Academic All-Conference winners, 29 behind the leader in the College of St. Scholastica. The Eagles improved from last year's mark of 52 winter and spring awards. Together with the 46 fall academic all-conference winners, NWC boasted 102 UMAC academic winners throughout the entire 2010-11 year.
