Update: Mar. 15—A group of Northwestern College students, led by Dr. Lisanne Winslow, Professor of Biology and Fulbright scholar, arrived safely in the Twin Cities at approximately 6 p.m. after traveling in Japan since March 3. The honors biology students were on a Spring Break study trip, and were in Tokyo when the earthquake and tsunami struck Japan last Friday. The group was safe the entire time as the heaviest devastation was several hours away from their location.
All Northwestern College Spring Break teams have now arrived back in Minnesota.
Mar. 11—We are praising God for the safety of NWC students, faculty and staff who are traveling in areas where natural disasters have occurred.
Dr. Lisanne Winslow is traveling with group of honors biology students in Tokyo, Japan where a serious earthquake (8.9 on the RIchter scale) hit in the early morning hours (CST) today. We have received word that all individuals are safe, and they are planning their return to the Twin Cities on Saturday as scheduled barring airport complications.
Coach John Sanny and members of the NWC tennis team have been traveling in Kona, Hawaii, where a tsunami is developing as a result of the Japanese earthquake. We have made contact with Sanny, and the team was sent to higher ground where all are safe and sound. This group is also planning to return on their previously scheduled flight on Saturday unless airports have delays.
Several NWC teams are serving on missions trips in California; all are safe and are planning to return to the Twin Cities as scheduled.
We praise God for His protection of our colleagues and loved ones.
