Brian Lecheler named to DIII News All-American Team
Mar. 24—Northwestern men's basketball player, senior Brian Lecheler, a finance major from Abbotsford, WI, was named to the DIII News All-America Honorable Mention team on Monday following the conclusion of the NCAA Tournament in Salem, Va. Lecheler was one of 62 men's basketball players nationwide that were named in the release.
Lecheler, the 2010–11 UMAC Player of the Year and first team all-conference honoree, averaged 10.9 points per game while maintaining a .511 field goal percentage. His 5.6 assists per game were 26th-best amongst all NCAA Division III players while his 2.87 assist-to-turnover ratio was rated 14th in the nation.
The Eagles finished the season with a 21–7 overall record while going 13–1 in UMAC play, earning the conference's first-ever automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament. Northwestern lost to the University of St. Thomas, the eventual NCAA Champion, 70–60 in the opening round after leading the Tommies for most of the game.
