Academy of Music offers Jazz Improv class this fall
Aug. 18 – The Northwestern Academy of Music is pleased to present a new Jazz Improv class this fall. The class is slated to begin Monday, September 13 and will occur on Monday evenings through December. A spring class will be offered as well.
The main focus of the class will be small group jazz with an emphasis on traditional methods of improvisation, including phrasing of melody and accompaniment.
Instructor Wes Ruelle specializes in teaching jazz piano and improvisation, but has a strong background in classical music, as well as rock and blues. He began playing at age six and has played with a variety of musical groups including the William Paterson University jazz program, internationally known as one of the most prestigious programs in the world.
Ruelle proposed the idea of adding the Jazz Improv class after experiencing a similar course as a high school student that inspired him to pursue jazz music.
