Theatre on Purpose

A New Touring Issue-Oriented Show
Written by a Student Company

Directed by Brian Grandison

Tour Dates:

March 19-April 19  |  2014

What is it?

Theatre on Purpose, sponsored by University of Northwestern Theatre, tackles tough social issues through the medium of theatre. The 2013 production focused on the tragedy of human trafficking and its unprecedented growth in Minnesota and the world. The 2014 production's topic is forthcoming.

Directed by professional theatre artists, Theatre on Purpose is a small ensemble of Northwestern student theatre artists who write and perform original pieces about important social issues. Our charge is to take what’s wrong in our world and challenge ourselves—and our audiences—to create change for the better!

What will people experience?

Theatre on Purpose presents original, thought-provoking drama designed to generate discussion—and action. You may choose to offer just the drama to your audience or you may want to also add a post-show talk-back with the actors and director. We want your group to engage directly with the material we present by asking questions, providing feedback and receiving more information about how to directly get involved.

Where’s the show?

Theatre on Purpose is portable—we come to you! We can set up and perform nearly anywhere! And we work best OFF the stage: in a classroom, cafeteria, assembly room or chapel. Technical requirements are minimal.

What’s the cost?

Theatre on Purpose is free of charge! Depending on how far we travel, we may ask you to provide traveling expenses and accommodations. Host homes are acceptable for overnight stays.
