Describe your job responsibilities:
I manage a group that processes government mortgage loans in our relocation department (I also manage two support staff and a team lead). Each day is very different, but my main responsibilities are to train and develop my staff to ensure they are confident and equipped to serve our customers well, deliver on our performance standards, and enjoy and grow in their roles. So I do everything from analyzing reports to conducting performance reviews, developing training programs and materials, and leading bi-weekly one-on-one development meetings. I also do a lot of delegating to my team lead and other team members, and they really help me run the team in an efficient and fun way.
When did you start this job?
I started at Wells Fargo in March of 2008 and starting managing in October of 2010.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love the people I work with. I had no idea how wonderful a corporate culture could be! Being a part of my department and my team feels like family – we support one another and have fun together while we work hard for the customer. I also love being a part of a great company and something bigger than myself. Specifically, in my job I really love developing others and watching them thrive in meaningful and creative work.
How did Northwestern prepare you for the responsibilities and challenges of your job?
Northwestern prepared me to be professional, responsible, and confident. I learned a lot of specifics in different areas of business, but those three things will go with me no matter what role I’m in or company I’m a part of.
Why did you choose Northwestern?
I chose Northwestern because of their commitment to truth and the Word.
How did you grow while at NWC? And how do you integrate that now into your career?
I grew in confidence by giving presentations, being stretched academically, and learning to be a leader as an RA. As a manager I need a lot of confidence in making decisions and inspiring my team.
What did you enjoy most about NWC?
I loved the people and relationships I built at Northwestern. There are many other things I enjoyed, but the people were the best!
Why is Northwestern a good place to study business?
The teachers have so much experience to share with the students and they care and invest in our lives. I still consider many of the teachers as friends and feel free to go to them when I need to. Also the backing of truth and the Word is huge. So much of day to day business life is lived in the gray area and being a woman of integrity has helped me a lot in my career.
