The Health Sciences major is primarily intended for students who intend to pursue nursing at the bachelor’s, masters, or even doctoral level, although it could be pursued to meet the prerequisites for physician assistant and physical therapy programs. This major was devised to meet the requirements for entrance to any of the six post-baccalaureate nursing programs in the state of Minnesota, and it was tailored specifically for the prerequisites for the “bachelor’s to BSN” accelerated nursing program at the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh. Career opportunities in nursing are excellent – nursing is the largest health care occupation and will add new jobs much faster than the average of all occupations, according to the Bureau of Labor statistics. The degree is granted upon completion of 125 credits as specified in the catalog (40 credits must be in 3000- or 4000-level courses).
