What is the main purpose of the Northwestern College Bible Institute? The Northwestern College Bible Institute (NBI) educates leaders and laypeople in the Twin Cities, encourages Christians from all cultural and educational backgrounds, and equips people for ministry. A primary goal of the NBI is to provide adults with affordable Christ-centered instruction that helps them learn more of God's Word and sharpen their ministry skills. The NBI is not affiliated with any specific denomination. What kind of programs does the NBI offer? The Northwestern College Bible Institute offers an array of non-credit Bible classes for adults, ranging from Christian growth courses for new believers to leadership development for mature believers. Students may choose from 3 programs spanning from self-contained seminars that strengthen personal faith to more extensive study that sharpens ministry skills:
- Walk Thru the Bible Certificate
- Diploma in Bible
- Diploma in Ministry
How can I apply to take courses from the NBI? The application process at NBI is purposely kept simple so as not to discourage any person wanting to study the Bible. All that is required is completion of the online registration form. Where are NBI courses taught? NBI courses are taught one night a week at local churches across the Twin Cities. Our current host churches are located in south Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the southern metro ("south of the river"): At times, the NBI will teach courses at other locations upon request. Please check our registration page for more details. Who teaches the classes? Dr. Fred Iglesia, director of the NBI and a full-time faculty member in the Biblical & Theological Studies department at Northwestern College, has developed the entire NBI program and teaches at each location. With years of experience as a pastor, Dr. Fred knows how to meet students where they're at and bring them to the next level in their understanding of the Bible. What will I receive for completing a class? The NBI recognizes the hard work of each student with an award ceremony at the end of each year. What will I receive for completing an entire program (10 courses)? Graduates will receive a certificate and can participate in a cap-and-gown graduation ceremony held once every five years at Northwestern College campus. Students who have successfully completed the Diploma in Bible will be awarded 10 semester credits after enrolling at Northwestern College and successfully completing their first semester in a Northwestern College Traditional Undergraduate, Distance Education, or FOCUS Degree Completion program. Can I transfer NBI courses? Courses completed through the NBI are not transferable as college credits to other academic institutions. My son or daughter is in high school and wants to attend Northwestern College. Should he/she take NBI courses? We encourage you to enroll your high school aged children into the Northwestern College PSEO program so that each course competed will count as college credit. Through Minnesota’s Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) and Early College at Northwestern, high school juniors and seniors can get a head start on college through courses offered in a convenient online format. Why is the NBI growing? NBI is growing numerically and spiritually due to a few key factors. Prayerful planning was aided by a recasting of the vision in a way that was sensitive to the cultural context of the Institute. Careful research identified the leaders within the matrix of networks. Biblical truth that is communicated in a way that is culturally sensitive is compelling to those who are already hungry to "grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."
