Kjellgren Alkire

Kjellgren AlkireAssistant Professor of Art & Design

As an intermedia artist, Kjellgren Alkire is interested specifically in how messages are constructed and communicated in subcultural production.  He works in performance, installation and graphics to investigate evangelical aesthetics, rural life and belief.  His academic research uses new media theory to better understand contemporary North American religious practice.

An active professional practice is important to Kjellgren.  His work  is included in collections at Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Scottsdale, Arizona; Botkyrka Konsthall, Botkyrka, Sweden and Amity Art Foundation Inc., Woodbridge, CT.  He is the beneficiary of several awards, including grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board, the Contemporary Forum of the Phoenix Art Museum and the Missouri Arts Council.

More than art, design and teaching, he loves his wife their two terrific kids and two irreverent pug dogs.
