Barbara Claussen

Barbara Claussen graduated from the University of Minnesota with an MFA in drawing and painting. She studied Chinese painting at the South China University of Technology in Guangzhou China. During the massacre in Tiananmen Square in 1989, she left China and spent several weeks camping on an island in the South China Sea before she was able to return to the mainland. She has exhibited her work and executed projects in the United States, Canada and Europe. She received three Jerome Grants to install work at Intermedia Arts in Minneapolis and a public art project on Nicollet Island. Claussen received a Jerome Emerging Artist Grant in 2008. She completed a residency in Brandenburg, Germany in 2010.
