If you answered "yes" or "maybe" to any of these questions, consider attending the35th Northwestern College Golf Classic on Monday, May 24.

This tournament provides the opportunity to network, make new friends, enjoy a wonderful day of golf at Midland Hills Golf Course in St. Paul, and invest in the lives of students at Northwestern. Proceeds from golf tournament will provide scholarships to Northwestern College students.

The tournament will conclude with a delicious steak dinner and a short program, featuring our guest speaker, Irv Cross. BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

10-Year Anniversary of Annual Day of Prayer and Service

On Thursday, April 15, Northwestern College's annual Day of Prayer & Service initiative sent students, faculty, and staff out into the metro community to spend a day focused on prayer and serving local organizations.

This year was especially significant as it marks the 10-year anniversary of the initiative. Though it has grown in many ways, the Day of Prayer & Service continues to focus on the same core vision established in 2000: A day set aside for the entire Northwestern community to celebrate two distinct disciplines of Christianity.
"On this specific day we focus on connecting with God through prayer and connecting with community through service," said Jeff Snyder, associate dean and Day of Prayer & Service coordinator. "Though prayer and service are not exclusive to one day of the year, we set aside this day to specifically celebrate those ministry efforts."

Hundreds of Northwestern community members served at more than 40 organizations including Feed My Starving Children, Union Gospel Mission, People Serving People and Metro Hope Ministries. Though Snyder assists in selecting participating organizations, students and staff were welcomed and encouraged to find a service project that interested them.

A LEGACY OF LEADERSHIP - LINDA SCHUCK

A legacy has come to an end at Northwestern as head women's basketball coach Linda Schuck announced that she would step down from her position, ending a 13-year tenure. Schuck, who is looking forward to spending more time with her family, will leave as the program's most-winning coach, having amassed 216 career victories.

After wearing an Eagles uniform in the 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons, Schuck almost immediately took her place on Northwestern's bench as an assistant coach. Following a six-year stint as Sherri Holm's assistant, Schuck began what became an impressive resume as the team's head coach in 1997.

"The success of Linda's teams has gone far beyond the basketball court," said Dr. Matt Hill, Director of Athletics at Northwestern. "I have had the privilege to watch our student-athletes grow under her direction in their personal faith journeys, in the classroom and in the game of basketball."

For more details on Schuck's journey at Northwestern and her successful career as women's basketball coach, visit nwceagles.com.

The search for Northwestern's next head coach will begin immediately.

BILLY GRAHAM COMMUNITY LIFE COMMONS

The Billy Graham Community Life Commons, which will house new dining facilities, campus store, mail center and common areas, is coming along nicely! It is exciting to watch the construction process on campus and see the building take shape.

We continue to ask for your prayer and support as this project continues.

If you would like to support this exciting project, visit nwc.edu/give.

DEAD SEA SCROLLS EXHIBIT

Michael Wise, Ph.D., Northwestern College professor of Hebrew Bible and ancient languages and chair of the Northwestern Department of Biblical & Theological Studies, serves as expert advisor for the Science Museum of Minnesota's exhibition "The Dead Sea Scrolls: Words That Changed the World" (March 12 through October 24 in St. Paul).

Wise heavily influenced the creation of the supporting materials surrounding the scrolls exhibit--the largest and most expensive storyline ever presented by the Science Museum.

Wise's public lectures at Northwestern have sold out due to popular demand. However, we encourage you to take advantage of the remarkable opportunity to view the Dead Sea Scrolls at the Science Museum.

For more information, visit nwc.edu/scrolls.

YOU OUGHT TO BE IN PICTURES!

Northwestern alumni are doing great things around the world and we'd love to see you in action! If you have a photo of yourself and/or other alumni, we invite you to submit it to our office for publication consideration in an upcoming Pilot or in other alumni promotions on the web or in print. Here are some suggestions:

  • Travel photos showing alumni around the world or on the mission field
  • Alumni gatherings or events, either those sponsored by NWC or just gatherings of friends
  • Family photos with multiple generations of alums
  • Wedding photos with multiple NWC community members (to accompany a wedding announcement)

Depending on space availability, we will also consider publishing photos of individuals for inclusion in the "Through the Years" section of the Pilot, including "In Memoriam" and life updates.

Please send photos to alumni@nwc.edu. Submissions should be original digital images and include a note identifying who is in the photo (L to R, front row/back row, etc.), the graduation year (if known) and any additional details about the context of the photo (location, event information, reason for gathering, etc.).

By sending the photo you are indicating permission for use in various NWC publications, so please be sure everyone in the photo is OK with that. Use in publications will be determined by the Office of Marketing & Communications and will be determined on the basis of space availability, photo quality and other factors.
