    Urban Studies

By 2025, it is estimated that 75% of the world’s population will live in cities. The Urban Studies major prepares students to establish, develop, and carry out ministry or other work in an increasingly urban world, both in the local church and through parachurch ministries, local government and secular non-profits. The major also prepares lays the foundation for graduate study.

As an Urban Studies major, you will take prerequisite courses at Northwestern your first two years in preparation for a junior year living in the Phillips neighborhood of Minneapolis.

As a resident of a South Minneapolis neighborhood for fall and spring semester, you and your fellow students will take your classes and intern at a local church or non-profit in the neighborhood, fully experiencing city life firsthand before returning to Northwestern to prepare for graduation your senior year.
