What do you do when you find almost everything interesting but don't want to triple major?
Be an Interdisciplinary Studies major of course!
With an interdisciplinary studies major, you can design your own individualized multidisciplinary major in consultation with an academic advisor.
What is it?
Interdisciplinary studies degrees are built from courses across different academic departments and if appropriate, pulling in some coursework from another institution.
The purpose of the interdisciplinary studies major is to provide a quality, comprehensive academic experience with academic aspirations not served by a specific academic major at Northwestern College.
How does this differ from other majors?
As far as requirements go, they're not much different than other majors.
Requirements include:
48 credits in at least two academic areas
30 upper-level credits
Completion of an integrated capstone paper or project
At least 50 percent of major completed at NWC
Meeting of all core curriculum and graduation requirements of Northwestern
However, the great thing about the Interdisciplinary Studies major is that if the other academic departments at Northwestern don't serve your exact academic aspirations, this major will help you fulfill those goals in a fun, hands-on way.
This unique major allows you to pursue a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies while combining your personal academic goals and integrating a Christian perspective.
Consulting with an academic advisor, you'll be able to design a coherent program of study that meets specific academic goals. In other words, you create your own major!
Take a look at some of the past majors developed by NWC students:
Born with a love of horses, Hannah has hopes of one day starting her own horse business combining horses and riders with artistic media, much like Cavalia. Through the Interdisciplinary Studies Major, Hannah has been able to put together a major, Entrepreneurial Business, that will allow her to one day realize her dream.
