Engineering sciences and mathematics exert a powerful influence in our society today. At Northwestern, we want to send out graduates who possess the intellectual, creative and spiritual mettle to provide innovative solutions to solve complex problems facing society today.
The engineering degree program offered at Northwestern College is a dual degree program in cooperation with the College of Science & Engineering at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.
In this program, you’ll complete a three-year course of study at Northwestern for either an applied mathematics degree or an engineering sciences degree, then complete the two-year program at the University of Minnesota to complete the full engineering bachelor degree requirements.
This means you can graduate in approximately 5 years or less with two bachelor’s degrees!
The engineering dual degree program stands out from others in Minnesota by offering the advantages of personal attention, mentoring and spiritual support in the smaller introductory classes at NWC and the vast resources and range of options in the upper-level courses at the University of Minnesota.
Because of our cooperative agreement with the University of Minnesota, NWC students with a minimum GPA of 2.5 to 2.8 (depending on the engineering discipline) are guaranteed entrance to the College of Science & Engineering.
Meet engineering professor Dr. Matt Hyre, who started out in the Army and found his faith at MIT. He holds eight U.S. patents and several research contracts—which provides his students with opportunities to get paid for learning research skills while advancing the frontiers of engineering. Students Speak
“I chose engineering because I knew math and science were things I was good at and I enjoyed them. I also love working with technology and I know that that is a huge part of the engineering discipline. I’ve always been pretty logical and have had a knack for figuring things out, and math and engineering play perfectly into my personality.”
