Academic Support Services

Northwestern is committed to providing students with the resources and services they need to succeed academically in college.

The Center of Academic Programs for Support Services (CAPSS) houses the ALPHA Center (tutoring), Disabilities Office for Support Services (DOSS), the Culture, Language and Transition (CLT) program, the Passport to Success Program and several committees that deal with ADA needs across campus. CAPSS collaborates with other offices on campus, including Health Services and Counseling Services, to provide the most reasonable services for each individual student qualifying for assistance under the ADA.

Tutoring Assistance

Current students have the benefit of free tutoring services through the ALPHA Center.

Student Experiences in CAPSS

  • A senior who used the services of CAPSS found the extended test-taking time was just the accommodation she needed to  demonstrate her knowledge of the subject to the professor.
  • Another student recently received a B+ in a math class because of the collaborative work between CAPSS and the ALPHA Center.

Success like this is common among the students who are connecting with CAPSS and getting the assistance they need to move through the academic process at NWC!
