P O W E L L, Wyoming - The Northwest Civic Orchestra adds to the local spirit and the community celebration of Powell’s Country Christmas with an evening concert featuring traditional holiday carols and music from bygone days.

The performance begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, in the Nelson Performing Arts Auditorium at Nortwest Collge.

This year’s theme, based on the 1946 American Christmas drama “It’s a Wonderful Life,” is one of inspiration and goodwill. Images of past local holiday traditions and musical performances will be displayed in unison as conductor Maurine Akin sets the tempo.

Included in the repertoire are traditional holiday favorites like Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride” and “A Christmas Festival.” Other selections include Antonio Vivaldi’s “Winter,” Georges Bizet’s “Farandole,” and Vaughn Williams’ “Fantasia on Greensleeves.”

Transiberian Orchestra’s “Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24,” combining an instrumental medley of “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” and “Carol of the Bells,” wraps up the performance.

The fun continues with a post-performance reception immediately following the program.

General admission to the concert is $7 for adults; senior citizens pay $5. NWC students and children under 12 are admitted free.
