Jazz Combo, Jazz Band II and Faculty Band go "Ìáfull out' Tuesday, Nov. 18, at NWC

POWELL, Wyo. ─ The Northwest College’s Jazz Combo and Jazz Band II will perform music from their recent jazz tour to Wyoming and Montana high schools in a 7:30 p.m. concert Tuesday, Nov. 18, in the Nelson Performing Arts Center Auditorium.

Jazz Combo players, directed by adjunct percussion instructor Matt Devitt of Billings, Montana, will lend their musical talents to showcase a collection of tunes and improvisation in a small combo setting. Selections include “All Blues” by well-known jazz musician Miles Davis and “St. Thomas” by American jazz tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins.

Under the tutelage of Craig Olson, Jazz Band II keeps things swingin’ with the driving rhythms of Gordon Goodwin’s “Jazz Police.” “Up Jumped Spring,” a fresh, melodic piece by Freddie Hubbard, is followed by the ever-popular jazz classic “Comin’ Home Baby,” written by Mel Torme and recorded by such artists as Sergio Mendes and Michael Bublé.

Music faculty Matt Devitt, Jan Kliewer, Craig Olson, Rob Rumbolz and Jeff Troxel, take the stage to close the concert with a few of their favorite jazz tunes.

Admission is free and open to the public.
