A Message from the Director of Theatre Arts
The mission of the Northwestern College Theatre Arts program is to use theatre as a way to examine the issues of life through the lens of faith.

In fact, the word theatre, when translated from Greek, means "a place for seeing." As a Christ-centered college, it is our desire not only to entertain, but to invite our audiences to see more; to see truth communicated from the stage.

Our goal is to do excellent theatre that speaks out of a Christian worldview and tackles tough, real world themes and ideas that reflect the human condition: a world in need of hope and God’s redemptive love.

In a turn from NWC tradition and in order to best fulfill our mission and be wise stewards of our resources, the theatre and music departments have decided to collaborate every third year on a big, traditional Broadway style musical production. Since we performed The Music Man in the fall of 2008, it is likely the next big musical will take the stage during the 2011–12 school year.

In the meantime, the theatre department will continue to produce musical theatre each year, in addition to our regular season of dramas, comedies and one act plays. So you can continue expecting to see excellent musical theatre that we can examine through the lens of our faith—like The Spitfire Grill (2008), Godspell (2009) and our upcoming Spring 2010 musical, Working —shows that will always carry a high entertainment value as well as important thought.

Thank you for supporting Northwestern College Theatre Arts and our talented theatre students! Theatre needs an audience so we look forward to making you laugh, cry, think, and ultimately see the world, each other, and our great God in a new way.

Donald “Doc” Rainbow, Ph.D.
