August 22–24, 2008 – for parents of all new students

You and your student are about to embark on an exciting new chapter in life. Parent Orientation is your opportunity to move through this transition with as much information and support as possible. We encourage all parents or guardians of new students to participate in Parent Orientation, hosted by Parent Relations and the Parent Council.

Friday, August 15 (parents of new student fall athletes only)

8–11 a.m. | Parent Council Table
Robertson Student Center
Find out how to stay connected with your students and support Northwestern while enjoying fellowship with other excited parents. Learn about Parent Council committees: College Affairs, Hospitality, Fundraising and Prayer. Also, find out how you can be involved in active prayer groups through Moms In Touch International.

11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. | Welcome to Northwestern Lunch*
Blue Room (Nazareth Hall)
Welcome to Northwestern Lunch: Parents, families and new students gather for lunch to meet key members of Northwestern College.

1–3 p.m. | Parent Conversations
Blue Room
Hear from college administrators, Student Development, current NWC parents and other college officials who will address college life issues during a Q & A session.

Wednesday, August 20 (parents of new intercultural students only)

6–8:30 p.m. | Welcome Banquet
Blue Room
Enjoy dinner for new incoming students and parents/sponsors. Dinner is Free.

8:30 p.m. | Brief Information Assembly
Blue Room
There will be a brief information assembly for parents/sponsors of intercultural students to help answer questions.

6-8:30 p.m. | Parent Council Table
Blue Room

Friday, August 22-24 (parents of all new students)

8 a.m. – 1 p.m. | Resident Student Check-in (required)
10 a.m. – 1 p.m. | Commuter Student Check-in (required)
Totino Fine Arts Center
Check-in takes about an hour. During this process, students receive their ID Card, Mail Center key, and other important items. After Check-in, resident students move into their rooms and meet the Residence Life staff.

8 a.m.–1 p.m. | Parent Council & Parent Relations Table

Find out how to stay connected with your students and support Northwestern while enjoying fellowship with other excited parents. Learn about Parent Council committees and Moms In Touch International at Northwestern College.

11 a.m.– 2 p.m. | Lunch
Cafe Naz
Adults: $9.34 (includes tax); Children 10 and under: $7.69 (includes tax); Children 3 and under: free. Pay at register. Students: use meal plan (ID card) or cash.

11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. | Dollars & Sense
Riley 1209
Talk to one of the local bank representatives who will be on hand to help parents and students establish local checking/savings accounts.

2–3 p.m. | Welcome to Northwestern
Maranatha Hall
Gather for a community time of worship and welcome as orientation “officially” begins.

3–4 p.m. | Meet the Faculty
Designated Rooms
Take this opportunity to become familiar with our academic departments. Meet with individual professors who will provide program information and preparation requirements for their respective disciplines.

4–6 p.m. | Information Fair
Nazareth 1st Floor Hallway
Talk to members of key departments who will provide information and answer your questions.

4:30–6:30 p.m. | Family BBQ Buffet Supper
Café Naz (Blue Room seating will be available)
Enjoy a delicious meal and visit with other parents from your area. (Students will be dining with their orientation groups.) Tickets are required for this event. Register online or download the Registration Order Form.

6:45–8 p.m. | Parent Vespers
Maranatha Hall
Gather for a time of prayer, praise and testimony. A NWC tradition you won’t want to miss!

8 p.m. | Just Dessert
Totino Fine Arts Center
Get together with students, parents and orientation leaders to enjoy dessert as the day’s activities conclude.

Saturday, August 23

While there is no charge for Saturday sessions, tickets are required for both. Due to limited space, we ask that only parents and legal guardians attend these sessions. Register online or download the Registration Order Form.

9–11 a.m. Conversations with College Administration
Blue Room (Nazareth Hall)
Enjoy a continental breakfast and hear from President Alan Cureton. Other college officials will also address college life issues.

11 a.m.–1:15 p.m. | Lunch and Conversations with Student Services & Student Development
Blue Room (Nazareth Hall)
Enjoy a box lunch and hear from various Student Services departments. Also, Student Development Deans and Residence Life staff discuss college life and the Student Development philosophy for interacting with students and their families.

Sunday, August 24

10–11 a.m. | All-Campus Worship Celebration
Maranatha Hall
New and returning students, family, faculty and staff join to recall God’s blessings and seek the Lord as we begin the new school year.

11 a.m.–1 p.m. | Sunday Brunch
Café Naz (Blue Room seating will be available)
Enjoy a wonderful variety of pastries, entrees, beverages and desserts served buffet style. Tickets are required for this event. Register online or download the Registration Order Form.
Students use meal plan or cash.
