What is an "Online" course?

You MUST have Internet access to complete this type of course.

Online courses have allow students to interact with other students and their instructor via an online discussion board, submit assignments and exams electronically, and have an added time-requirement. Semester start and end dates are critical for an online course. The group of students starts the course together, works through the course materials and assignments together, and finishes together. This type of course has greater accountability since assignments have due dates which are to be followed throughout the semester. You must enroll in an Online course before the first week of the semester.

What is an "Independent Study" course?

An Independent Study course means that while you study, you are independent of other students, of weekly due dates, and of regular interaction with your professor. You can start a course when you are ready and work on it at your own pace as long as you are able to complete the course by the end of the semester deadline. Although Internet access is not required for all Independent Study courses, there are several courses that have required online assignment and exam submissions. Please refer to the course syllabus for online submission requirements. You may enroll in an Independent Study course up to one month after the semester start date.
